After graduation from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, I moved to Maryland where I taught History and English in St. Mary’s County and Hartford County. I developed an interest in law while residing within reach of the University of Baltimore Law School where I received my Juris Doctor Degree in Law in 1972 and was successful in passing the Maryland Bar Exam.
However, rather than establishing a law practice in Maryland, I returned to my hometown of Wilkes-Barre at the time of the Agnes flood, helping relatives affected by the floodwaters. After successfully passing the Pennsylvania Bar Exam, I accepted an associate position with a small law firm in Wilkes-Barre. Part of my practice included work with the Redevelopment Authority in its Disaster Relief Effort of acquiring properties from flood victims relocating from their flood-damaged properties, and also doing title work for the Small Business Administration, the agency that was offering low-interest loans to victims of the flood. As an associate of the law firm of Mack and Meyer, my practice broadened to include personal injury and litigation work as well as other fields incident to a general practice.
In 1981 I joined with Martin J. Meyer in forming the firm of Meyer and Swatkoski Associates. Throughout my practice I have been a member of the Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and the American Bar Associates, Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and also the elite National Organization of Social Security Representatives. I eventually became an experienced injury lawyer involved in countless medical malpractice, automobile and truck accident, slip and fall, and other miscellaneous injury claims, as well as Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Disability claims.
Because of my experience following the Agnes Flood, I maintained an interest in real estate law and continue to work in that field as a Title Agent for residential loans.
